Working on hire equipment that keeps projects moving
MachinesAfrica Rentals is based in Germiston and supports sites across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. Our work is hands-on, time sensitive and tied to the real demands of construction, from city redevelopments to road works, housing developments and industrial sites. We hire people who can show up prepared, work neatly, and understand that a machine down on site can cost a contractor an entire day.
We have roles across operations, fleet management, workshop support, dispatch, hire coordination, safety, compliance and client support. Some jobs are office based, while others are out at the depot, in the yard or on site. Either way, we expect clear communication, respect for process and a practical approach to problem solving.
Roles we commonly hire for
Our team is built around the full hire cycle, from the first enquiry to off-hire collection and final inspection. Depending on business needs, we may recruit for the following areas:
- Hire coordinators and customer support staff
- Fleet and logistics planners
- Workshop technicians and maintenance assistants
- Drivers and delivery crews
- Safety and compliance support roles
- Operations and depot support staff
- Site service and breakdown response teams
Experience in plant hire, construction, logistics or equipment maintenance is helpful, but attitude matters too. If you are organised, reliable and able to work under pressure, there may be a place for you here. We value people who can work long hours when needed and still keep standards high, especially when sites are running on tight programmes.
What we look for in applicants
We are interested in people who understand that this industry runs on timing, upkeep and accountability. A strong candidate is usually comfortable with early starts, site access rules, basic paperwork and working with contractors who need straight answers. You should be able to follow instructions, keep records properly and speak to clients in a calm, professional way.
For some roles, you may need a valid driving licence, plant handling experience, technical training or safety certification. For others, a good work ethic and willingness to learn is what matters most. We also work in coastal conditions in some branches, so practical awareness around corrosion, storage and machine care is useful.
If you have been on a site where a generator failed during load-shedding, or a machine needed a quick swop-out before a pour, you already understand the kind of pressure our people deal with daily.
How our teams work day to day
Our depots in Germiston, Midrand, Pretoria East, Boksburg, Durban, Pinetown, Cape Town and Bellville keep equipment moving to sites across the country. That means the work is varied and often busy. One day may involve planning long-term hire for a civil contractor, the next could mean arranging same-day dispatch, checking fuel levels, or sorting an off-hire collection after hours.
- Fast response when a site changes plan
- Clear handover between depot, workshop and delivery teams
- Proper safety documentation and site compliance
- Regular equipment checks and servicing
- Weekend support when project timelines require it
We expect people to work as a team, communicate early when issues come up, and keep the yard, vehicles and paperwork in order. Small errors can create delays, so attention to detail matters alot.
Training, safety and growth
Safety is part of the job, not an extra. Our Safety and Compliance Lead works closely with the rest of the team to make sure procedures are followed, documents are in place and site risks are handled properly. We also put a strong focus on equipment condition, because reliable machinery is what keeps our clients productive and our people safe.
When possible, we support development through on-the-job learning, cross-training and exposure to different departments. A yard hand may grow into dispatch, a driver may move into fleet support, and a workshop assistant may build technical skill over time. We want people who can grow with the business, not just fill a shift.
